A SOFT PLACE

Installation, HD video
2020

A video is projected down onto a bed of finely ground stone lying in a circle on the floor. Here you can see burnt holes in paper that slowly expand as the glow eats their way outwards. The sequence is overlaid with different takes to give the illusion of an endless tunnel with no beginning and no end. The title of the work comes from Neil Gaiman’s term for places where our reality is “soft” and permeable. Where it is an interface, for example to dreams or other worlds.
